Forensics to discuss debate

By Andrew Osenga

NIU Forensics will host a viewing of the third and final presidential debate at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

The event is open to all and is meant to help bring about knowledge of the candidates and how they stand on issues.

After the debate, members of NIU Forensics will be around to help answer questions that people might have, but it is not supposed to be an open forum.

“This event will be a great chance for people to get together to watch the debates and develop a better understanding of the issues in this campaign,” said Amy Lehuta, president of NIU Forensics.

John Butler, director and head of forensics, said he believes the event will draw more viewers to the debate.

“So far, the presidential and vice presidential debates have proved to be more crucial to the election than expected, providing opportunities for the American people to see differences in approaches, opinions and plans between the two parties,” Butler said.

“We plan to watch the debate, not to comment on it or declare a winner.”
