Students keep resumes attractive

Fancy fonts and colorful paper may catch the eye of a pre-schooler but may not be best for a resume.
“You want to try and highlight your accomplishments rather than be overly creative,” said Alan Farber, assistant director of the Career Planning and Placement Center.
A job seeker wants to avoid using colors and fonts that may be hard to scan, fax, copy or read, Farber said. Also, an applicant should not worry about the paper and fonts but be more concerned with thoroughly and accurately describing his or her accomplishments and work experience.
The center stresses the importance of including accomplishments and work experience that is relevant to the jobs applicants are seeking.
Typically, an applicant should only include the things done in college unless it is very impressive and relevant to the work you are doing, Farber said.
Students planning on attending the job fair should send copies of their resumes to potential employers ahead of time and bring several copies with them to the fair.
