Article neglected to tell human side of story
October 19, 2004
I am an avid reader of the Northern Star, and I have had no complaints until today. While reading the article by David Gomez about the death of Matthew Kenney, I was disgusted by the way he was portrayed. The article discussed how he died and that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. There is more to Matthew Kenney than the last ten seconds of his life and the fact that he lived in Geneva. He was a loving boyfriend and son. He dedicated two years of his life to the Air Force. He was an amazing basketball player and an amazing brother to four siblings. He was the life of the party and rarely could you find him without a smile on his face.
Even if this is just a preliminary article to Matthew Kenney’s death, it should have been researched further. When did journalism become so minimal? This is more than a death. He had friends and family that cared for him, and the article did not express any of that.
