Star’s endorsement lacks logical thought
October 27, 2004
Wednesday’s editorial was insulting.
The Northern Star’s endorsement of Ron Matekaitis makes the kind of sense that just doesn’t.
The editorial plainly states that in a competition for top lawyer in the county, the editorial board would root against the only lawyer.
That’s like picking the mule to win a horse race.
The other brilliant point of reason is that Matekaitis has experience in government, hence he should stay.
If this were rational, voters would not oust incumbents for their gross incompetence.
Does the Star’s editorial board really think its student and community readers are so stupid as to swallow these arguments?
If the board members want to endorse Matekaitis over Clay Campbell behind that thin veil they call “objectivity,” I would expect them to employ serious logic in their conclusions.
I hope students see through the Star’s shoddy non-logic and begin to demand more from their so-called paper of record.
