Huskies push toward full stadium
September 23, 2004
In an effort to push for a sellout for today’s 6:05 p.m. NIU football game against Bowling Green, tickets are now offered at the Grant and Douglas hall cafeterias.
In addition to the residence halls, students can still get tickets at the Convocation Center, Holmes Student Center and the Huskie Stadium Box Office on the day of the game.
Approximately 2,000 student tickets are left, and NIU assistant athletics director Scott Lowenberg is really pushing for a sellout because the game is being broadcast on ESPN2. They are hoping to have more than 6,000 students show up and are not anticipating turning away any student wishing to attend the game, Lowenberg said.
“The east side of Huskie Stadium is what shows up on TV, so we want that side to be filled,” Lowenberg said. “Don’t worry [this] morning if you don’t have a ticket; we are going to get you in. If possible, we would love to have up to 10,000 students at the game.”
It took until the day of the game against Southern Illinois on Sept. 11 for the students to pick up all 6,000 tickets that are allotted to them.
“Two years ago, the students really helped us beat Bowling Green,” NIU Coach Joe Novak said. “We need our students to be our 12th man.”
There are also still 4,000 general public tickets available, Lowenberg said.
Portable suites in the north end zone will make their debut today, but they are already rented out for the Bowling Green game. Tickets for the suites are available for the rest of the home games for $100 a person, said NIU Director of Sales Cliff Bottiglero.
NIU will also sponsor a sign competition. Students are encouraged to make Huskies signs and hold them up at the game for a chance to be recognized on ESPN2. The winner will also win an NIU prize pack.
