Matekaitis hosts campaign reception
September 8, 2004
Democrats and supporters of Ron Matekaitis, DeKalb County State’s Attorney, gathered at Eduardo’s Restaurant for nachos and a speech by guest Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan Wednesday.
“[Matekaitis] has made a longtime commitment to DeKalb County and the state of Illinois,” Madigan said at the restaurant, 214 E. Lincoln Highway.
Matekaitis graduated from NIU’s College of Law in 1985. Matekaitis has since served on the DeKalb County Board and as DeKalb City Attorney. He now also serves as a member of the State of Illinois Sex Offender Management Board.
“I have been working with Lisa Madigan since she was a candidate for Attorney General and came to DeKalb for a meeting with people in our domestic violence committee,” Matekaitis said.
All the money raised at the fundraising reception will contribute to Matekaitis’ campaign and his efforts toward sexual assault and domestic violence issues.
“[Matekaitis] has become a fabulous state’s attorney and takes a leadership role impacting children and women affected by these issues.”
Matekaitis has worked with prosecutors on sexual assault cases.
“There are very few candidates I will campaign for, but [Matekaitis] goes above and beyond for his job,” Madigan said.
Matekaitis is running for re-election against Republican candidate Clay Campbell.
Matekaitis has recently been traveling door-to-door throughout DeKalb County.
“I knock on every door whether it’s a registered voter’s or not,” Matekaitis said.
Students are also interested in what is going on and a lot were registered to vote even before they came to campus, Madigan said.
Among his supporters, Bob Brown, Democratic candidate for state representative, attended the reception.
