NIU looks for third victory

The NIU women’s soccer team will look to get win No. 3 and remain undefeated when it takes on Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne at 5 p.m. Friday at Huskie Soccer Field.

The win would be a complete reversal from last season’s 0-3 start.

NIU will play an IPFW team that is very similar to themselves. The Mastodons are a team-oriented club that has no stars – just like the Huskies, NIU coach Frank Horvat said.

The Mastodons (1-0) beat North Dakota State Friday 2-1 in double overtime. Both freshman midfielder Melissa Ellisen and sophomore midfielder Kristy Arnett scored for IPFW.

“It will all come down to who takes advantage of their chances,” Horvat said. “We got to make sure we’re not content with two wins in a row and not let ourselves get too caught up in our success. Three and 0 sounds a lot better than 2 and 0.”

Horvat expects junior midfielder Angeline Impelido to play Friday. Impelido, who left Monday’s game with leg cramps, practiced Tuesday without any problems.
