Convo announces acts

Two cowboys and some gangstas will be rolling up to the NIU Convocation Center in the next two months.

During NIU’s Homecoming Jam on Oct. 16, G-Unit member Lloyd Banks, with Young Buck, Lil’ Scrappy and Shawnna, will perform at 8 p.m. Country group Big & Rich, will perform along with Gretchen Wilson at 8 p.m. on Nov. 5.

“Historically, country acts have done very well at the Convo Center,” said Kevin Selover, marketing manager for the arena.

Selover said he thinks the Big & Rich show will appeal to a younger crowd, more so than traditional country artists.

Big & Rich released their album “Horse of a Different Color” in May, which went platinum and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart. Their single, “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy),” was released this summer.

One of the advantages of the show is the price, Selover said. Selover said he thinks the price for tickets is good for the quality of the show. The tickets are priced at $28.50 and $22.50.

Besides NIU students, he said he thinks the show will attract members of the community.

Headliner Lloyd Banks’ album “The Hunger for More,” featuring the single “On Fire,” debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart in June. On Homecoming, he will be joined by Young Buck, Lil’ Scrappy and Shawnna, who are also up-and-coming artists.
