Why freshman really choose NIU
September 13, 2004
Sweeps went all USA Today and polled 100 freshmen to find out why they came to NIU. The answers prove quite illuminating.
22 percent of respondents accidentally read U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges in America” list backwards.
21 percent found that local community college standards were just too high.
17 percent cited a strong desire for revenge against parents with high expectations.
11 percent believe NIU sounds just enough like NU that you can get away with misleading some drunken smart girl at a party.
10 percent replied with two words: free condoms.
9 percent said they believe that NIU is an affordable institution with a great campus and good faculty.
7 percent saw the potential of becoming a future Catch of the Day and wanted a really good answer when asked, “What is the worst decision you ever made?”
3 percent don’t believe in participating in fraudulent surveys.
