The DeKalb City Council approved measures to construct Macom Drive in Park 88 at Monday’s meeting.

The council authorized DeKalb Mayor Greg Sparrow to enter into an economic-development program agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation. This allows funding for the construction of Macom Drive and includes improvements on Fairview Drive and Peace Road, which will cost $1,454,350.

The council also authorized Sparrow to enter into a preliminary construction/engineering services agreement with Baxter & Woodman, Inc. for Macom Drive Construction Services. The amount for these services is not to exceed $395,000.

The meeting opened with the introduction of Jennifer Diedrich, NIU alumna, as special projects coordinator.

Sparrow announced the “Knights of Columbus Annual Fund Drive” to run on Sept. 17 to 19.

In other business, the board approved the $10,000 resolution to fund the preservation and the $76,000 for financing facility improvements for the Egyptian Theatre.

The council also adopted the National Incident Management System. NIMS allows DeKalb to prepare in case of major incidents such as tornadoes, fires and other natural disasters.

“We have been using NIMS for several years,” said DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell. “The resolution tonight formally adopts it and it will allow us to prove we adopted it every time we apply for federal funds,” he said.

The board also approved the widening of taxiways A and C at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport and to award the window replacement project to Irving Construction. The costs were not to exceed $105,600 and $17,831, respectively.
