DeKalb fire causes $35K in damage
September 14, 2004
A fire broke out Monday afternoon at a DeKalb home, resulting in $35,000 in damage.
DeKalb firefighters, along with assistance from the Sycamore and Cortland fire departments, responded to a report of a possible fire at 212 Tilton Park Drive at 3:16 p.m. Once there, they encountered dense smoke in the basement of the house. Firefighters learned one child from the home was unaccounted for.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and searched for the child. The child was found at a neighbor’s house and was not at home when the fire started.
The cause of the fire was found to be combustibles too close to a heat source. No civilians or firefighters were injured.
