Waterman set to host harvest festival

By Andy McMurray

This year marks the 18th annual Waterman Harvest Time Festival featuring water wars and homecoming festivities.

The festival begins with a parade at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Lions Park on Birch Street in Waterman. Events will continue until 8:30 p.m. Saturday and resume Sunday.

This is the first year for festival coordinator Nancy Lange and for Lions Park. The event used to be held in downtown Waterman, Lange said.

Featured events include a fire department water fight at noon, a pie auction at 11:30 a.m., food vendors and activities for children. Most events will be free.

The festival coincides with Indian Creek High School homecoming festivities. A soccer game is planned between Indian Creek and Paw Paw high school teams, Lange said.

The Waterman Fire Department will host a pork chop barbeque from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The proceeds from the barbeque benefit the fire department and help to purchase equipment such as saws and hoses, Lange said.

The Saturday events culminate with a fireworks display at 8:30 p.m. The festival wraps up Sunday at 7 p.m. with a concert by Christian music group United at the Waterman Presbyterian Church on Cedar Street.
