Jecklin leads men’s golf team; Women’s golf finishes eighth

By Bob Grant

For the second straight week, freshman Zach Jecklin led the NIU men’s golf team.

Jecklin scored the best collegiate round of his career with a 1-under-par 71 in Sunday’s final round at the Iowa Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Iowa. His final score of 218 was good enough for eighth place overall.

Finishing three shots behind Jecklin in 12th place was NIU junior Nick Schenk.

Rounding out the Huskie scorers were juniors Ethan Roush and Dan Gratton, who finished tied for 34th.

Overall, NIU finished fifth in the nine-team event while host Iowa won.

Women improve

NIU women’s golf improved its score each day of the University of Iowa Intercollegiate, but wasn’t able to improve its position.

Jackie Heslop led the way for the Huskies, scoring a season-low 78 on Saturday and finished tied for 13th Sunday after she hit a round of 82.

Iowa won the event while NIU finished eighth in the eight-team event.

Next for NIU is the 19th-annual Huskie Classic Oct. 3-4 in Huntley.
