July 5, 2004
DeKalb police arrested 37-year-old Anthony Murray on Tuesday after an attempted homicide on Holly Street, police said.
The victims, two females, ages 35 and 18, and a male, 26, were able to escape unharmed after Murray wielded an ax and attacked them in their vehicle Tuesday at about 3:30 a.m. The suspect damaged their vehicle with the ax and then fled the scene, speeding off in his vehicle, police said.
Murray then was seen by responding officers in the 500 block of East Lincoln Highway. The suspect approached campus while being chased westbound on Lincoln Highway before heading south on Annie Glidden Road.
Murray then struck a cement median in front of the Interstate 88 tollbooths and abandoned his vehicle. The suspect was chased down and apprehended, police said.
Murray is being charged with attempted homicide, attempted aggravated domestic battery, armed violence and aggravated fleeing and eluding. These charges, along with other pending traffic charges, could lead to more than 30 years in prison if he is convicted.
