July 19, 2004
Three subjects were arrested for their involvement in a beating and are being held on charges of home invasion, according to a press release issued from the DeKalb Police Department on Saturday.
At about 4 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Kimberly Avenue, the incident began as a verbal argument in the hall of an apartment building, police said. As the situation escalated, a number of people forcibly entered the victim’s apartment. There they struck the victim with a baseball bat, possibly breaking his arm, police said.
The victim stabbed one of the attackers in the chest, police said. Both the victim and the offender who was stabbed were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. The offender was then airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downer’s Grove. Police said he is expected to live.
Antwon L. Sumerall, 26, of DeKalb; Kendall N. Rogers, 27, of DeKalb; and Benneth D. Lee, 27, of Chicago were arrested and charged with home invasion, a Class X Felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Additional charges are pending against the three subjects and the offender who was stabbed. The case is still under investigation, police said.
