NIU to face both ends
April 8, 2004
The NIU women’s tennis team will get a taste of the best and the worst the MAC has to offer this weekend in its final home matches of the season.
NIU (7-6 overall, 3-2 MAC) faces Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. today and Toledo at 1 p.m. Saturday, both at Anderson Courts.
The Huskies will not use the West Campus Courts because the weather has prevented renovations, NIU coach Laura Scott said.
The Huskies return to their home court for the third and final time this season until they host the MAC tournament April 22 to 24 in Rockford.
Eastern Michigan won 10 of its past 11 matches and swept its past three opponents. The Eagles (11-4, 4-1) have beaten the Huskies five straight times, including a 5-2 decision at Eastern Michigan last season.
“Eastern is a very talented team,” Scott said. “Their No. 1 [Victoria Domina] and No. 2 [Amalia Lincaru] are quite good. Come match time, we will play to our strengths and look to find their weaknesses, as well.”
At the other end of the spectrum, Toledo (2-13, 0-5) is winless since Feb. 1 with 11 straight losses. NIU has won four straight games over the Rockets, including a 7-0 shutout at Toledo last season.
“We know Toledo is talented as well,” Scott said. “They’ve had a tough schedule, and they’ve posted some good scores. We will have to be on top of our game to beat them.”
