Applications for the Career Planning and Placement Center’s Volunteer and Service Learning awards are due Friday.

Volunteer work is popular at NIU, said Karen Castelein, coordinator of job location, volunteerism and service learning at the Career Planning and Placement Center.

“They do it for work, for experience, for class, for free time or for the goodness of their heart,” she said.

The award categories include Volunteer Student Group, Individual Student Volunteer, Volunteer Agency and Service Learning Project. Awards are given based on the applicant’s hours of service, type of project and community impact, Castelein said.

Castelein said the center also is looking for student volunteers to select the application recipients.

The application evaluation committee is open to students, faculty, staff and agency representatives. Volunteers can review the applications from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5 through April 9 at the Career Planning and Placement Center..

Applications are available at the Career Planning and Placement Center or at www.niu.edu/cppc/volunteer.

Winners will be honored at the annual Campus Leadership Awards ceremony at 1 p.m. April 23.
