Greeks to clean up Row
April 15, 2004
Phi Sigma Kappa will co-host its second annual Greek Row cleanup this year with Sigma Kappa at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Members of the Greek community and local government and university officials will meet at the north lot of Campus Cinemas on Saturday morning to pick up trash along Greenbrier and Blackhawk roads.
Service fraternities and sororities are expected to attend as well as houses that are located on the streets where the cleanup is taking place.
Lauren Lancaster, president of Sigma Kappa, said the cleanup is a good opportunity for students to get involved.
“It gives all of us the chance to be proactive on campus and start giving back to the community,” she said.
The cleanup also gives members of service houses an opportunity to complete the 10 community service hours they are required to serve. John Burns, Phi Sigma Kappa president, said he expects people to show up for other reasons beyond satisfying a requirement.
“A lot of people like to be outside even though it’s picking up garbage,” he said.
