Step it up

Sigma Gamma Rho will host its 26th annual fundraiser, the “Greek Scene” step show, at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

Crystal Barnes, member of Sigma Gamma Rho, said this is the sorority’s main fundraiser.

The theme of the step show is “I Remember Way Back When.” The sorority came up with the theme after brainstorming, said Tara McDonald, member of Sigma Gamma Rho.

“We wanted a theme that would be universal and bring out the creativity in the Greek organizations,” McDonald said.

Various National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations will perform at the step show. Sigma Gamma Rho will perform but will not compete. The other sororities and fraternities involved will compete against each other, and one fraternity and one sorority each will win $250.

This year, Sigma Gamma Rho decided to add a non-Greek portion to the step show for the first time. Among the non-Greek organizations performing are Dynamic Destruction and S.I.S.T.E.R.S.

McDonald said students should attend this event because it will be a spectacular show.

“It’s a quality program,” she said. “We have great step teams performing, and they’ll put on a great show.”

McDonald said tickets can be purchased from any member of Sigma Gamma Rho. They also can be purchased from McDonald at the Center for Black Studies. For more information, call 753-1709.
