Former official faces charges
April 25, 2004
Former DeKalb alderman and current school board member Andy Small was charged with domestic battery Thursday evening, following an incident at his Garden Road home. Small, 47, has been employed as NIU’s chemistry lab manager for 15 years.
An adult victim made the complaint to DeKalb police, Lt. Jim Kayes said. After an investigation, Small was arrested. He later was released after posting $100 bond.
The victim was not injured, Kayes said.
Kayes said he is not aware of any past problems with Small, who served as DeKalb’s 1st Ward Alderman from 1998 to 2004.
Small was appointed to the school board last November to fill a vacancy. His term expires in 2005.
Small had not returned calls to the Northern Star by press time.
