Greeknik weekend aims to unite community

Iota Phi Theta will hold its first Greeknik weekend today and Saturday at the Center for Black Studies.

The event is to bring together the Greek community as well as to allow members of the fraternity to preview Greek life.

The weekend will kick off today with a social gathering to acquaint members and fall inductees. Greeknik weekend will continue at noon Saturday with live music and a stroll competition, in which participants will combine dancing and walking. There also will be a barbecue.

Demetrius Harvey, vice president of Iota Phi Theta, said he hopes this weekend will demonstrate “Greek unity at its finest,” in which all Greeks can come together and have a good time.

The event is free but costs $3 for a plate of food. All are welcome to attend Saturday’s events.

Greeknik weekend was organized this year in a collective effort by Iota Phi Theta to provide an open-house type atmosphere where people can become more familiar with student organizations.
