Local bands to battle at sorority’s philanthropy
April 15, 2004
Sigma Lambda Sigma will hold its first Battle of the Bands at noon Sunday at its sorority house, 908 Greenbrier Road.
Seven groups will compete in the event, including NIU student bands Solister and Superstring. Any Minute Now, a high school band from Peoria, also will participate.
Lindsey Ridenour, Sigma Lambda Sigma’s philanthropy chair, said a lot of effort went into selecting the bands for the event.
“We tried to get a wide variety of music,” Ridenour said. “I think we have something for everybody.”
Music majors from Columbia University and Illinois State University will judge the competition, she said. Audience members also will be allowed to contribute to their favorite band’s overall score by penny voting.
Pi Kappa Alpha will host a barbecue during the event. After the competition, headlining act Dropped Once will perform.
The event is open to the public and admission is $5 with all proceeds to benefit Toys for Tots, Sigma Lambda Sigma’s philanthropy.
