Man jailed for sex crime

A Sycamore man is being held on $300,000 bail after being arrested and charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Jonathan E. Loyd, 23, was arrested Tuesday following an investigation by DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies into an incident involving a 5-year-old girl. The State’s Attorney’s Office and Department of Children and Family Services assisted in the investigation.

On Monday, accusations from the girl’s parents surfaced that Loyd may have sexually assaulted their daughter. A family friend who has spoken to the girl tipped off the parents, DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said. The incident is believed to have occurred in mid-February.

Criminal sexual assault charges surface when penetration occurs during a non-consensual sex act, Scott said.

“In this case it’s not even a situation where consent can be given,” Scott said. “It makes it even worse. There is so much damage done to all persons involved.”

Loyd, who Scott described as a “family acquaintance,” was alone with the girl when the incident occurred.

Loyd is being held at the county jail in lieu of bail. He must post at least 10 percent of his bail set at $300,000. His criminal background is minimal, Scott said, citing only theft and traffic charges.

Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child is a Class X felony, punishable by six to 30 years in prison. Loyd’s next court date is set for Tuesday.
