Hospital to sponsor fundraiser at Pizza Huts
March 31, 2004
Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva will sponsor a fundraiser today at local Pizza Huts.
The fundraiser will raise money for the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois and for dialysis equipment for the hospital.
Kidneys are considered the “washing machine” of the body, and if they break down or stop working, products will build up inside the body and become toxic, said Kelly Kalin, registered nurse and the fundraiser’s co-coordinator.
The Pizza Huts in DeKalb, Yorkville, Aurora and Sandwich will donate 20 percent of sales earned from customers who bring in a fundraiser flier. The program will run from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Representatives from the hospital will be outside the establishment passing out fliers, Kalin said.
Kalin said students from several elementary schools also passed out fliers for the event.
Renee Klus, manager at DeKalb’s Pizza Hut, 701 W. Lincoln Highway, said the establishment wanted to help the organization raise extra funds.
“It will help the company as well as the organization,” she said.
Kalin said this is the first time this type of fundraiser had taken place with the hospital.
“We wanted to see how much it will generate and how much community interest there will be,” Kalin said.
She said there is not a set goal, but she hopes the fundraiser will make at least $1,000.
