Police arrest 7 in local liquor store sting

By Nicholas Alajakis

A police sting late Thursday netted seven arrests for giving alcohol to a minor.

DeKalb set up the sting on Thursday evening at Lundeen’s Discount Liquors, 1030 Arcadia Drive. During the operation, an underage female correspondent of the department approached customers on their way into the store and asked them to purchase beer for her.

The female allegedly told subjects she was underage before asking for a six-pack of Miller Genuine Draft 12-ounce bottles. She then gave the subjects $6.

Seven people, all men, were arrested after they handed the female the beer she requested.

Arrested were Kenneth K. Yeatman, 22, of 816 Stevenson South; Berrardino Meza-Ramirez, 21, of 934 Greenbrier Road, Apt. 8; Michael R. Brown, 21, of Chicago; Joshua A. Aumick, 21, of 1400 Twombly Road, Apt. 4217; Anthony W. Thomas, 23, of 630 N. Annie Glidden Road, Apt. 401; Jerry Stout, 22, of Wooddale; and Derek J. Anderson, 20, of 900 Crane Drive, Apt. 519W.

All the men were charged with giving alcohol to a minor. Anderson also was charged with possession of alcohol as a minor.

Stings involving alcohol are not uncommon. Major stings in the past include an August 2003 sting on Greek Row that caught almost 90 underage drinkers. In fall 2002, a tobacco sting caught nine stores selling tobacco products to minors.
