Students show their stuff

Bodybuilders strutted and flexed on stage at NIU’s 15th annual Greek Physique on Wednesday night at the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

Hosted by fraternity Phi Kappa Sigma, the event played out before a cheering crowd of Greeks and other NIU students – some holding signs to support their favorite competitors.

Nearly 20 competitors, two of them women, vied for the top spot in six categories.

Taking the first place trophy in the lightweight division was Matt Mulhearn of Pi Kappa Alpha, while John Silosky, an independent contestant, and Eric Babich of Tau Kappa Epsilon won the middleweight and heavyweight divisions, respectively.

Winning first place in both bantamweight and overall competition was Evans Scholar Bob Bohaczyk.

Michelle Reavy, another independent contestant, took first place in the women’s category.

Drawing the loudest cheers, however, was six-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, who was on hand to help judge the event.

Chanting his name before he came on stage, the crowd rose to a roar as Coleman performed a routine for several minutes to the tune of 50 Cent’s “If I Can’t.”

Proceeds from the event benefit the Leukemia Society.

The event also was sponsored by GNC, Play It Again Sports and Molly’s Eatery & Drinkery.
