Bowling alley requests license review

By Libby John

Mardi Gras Lanes will ask the DeKalb Liquor Commission Tuesday to review its Class J liquor license.

According to the DeKalb Municipal Code, the license authorizes the retail sale of alcoholic liquor by bowling alleys and simulated golf establishments for consumption on the premises only.

The establishment, 1730 Sycamore Road, is the only one in DeKalb with that license.

Twenty-five percent of sales must come from liquor and 75 percent from other sales, City Attorney Margo Ely said.

Owner Edward Tadevich wrote a letter to the liquor commission because he would like to increase the amount of alcohol they are able to sell.

He said they expect to increase gross income by 50 to 100 percent, with a significant increase in food and beverage operations.

The bowling alley is in the design phase of an $800,000 renovation.

Tadevich added the establishment will be about 1,450 square feet, and only customers who are 21 and over will be able to enter the bowling alley’s bar.

Ely said Mardi Gras Lanes has to meet with the liquor commission first because it will have to advise the city council on the proposal.

No one at Mardi Gras Lanes was available for comment.

Mardi Gras Lanes will meet with the liquor commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
