An NIU student was killed Wednesday evening in an Ogle County automobile accident.

Amanda Starkweather, an 18-year-old pre-athletic training major, was killed when the vehicle she was driving was struck at about 6:30 p.m.

Starkweather was turning onto Route 64 after exiting southbound Interstate 39, Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies said, when she pulled into the intersection.

Starkweather’s vehicle was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Route 64 driven by a Lindenwood teen, police said.

Starkweather was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital where she was treated and released.
