Companies market jobs
February 2, 2004
The NIU marketing department, with the help of co-ed business fraternity Pi Sigma Epsilon, will host “Meet the Firm” today.
Mathew Varghese, vice president of the fraternity and a senior marketing major, said it is a good opportunity for people of all majors to make contacts with different companies.
Representatives from about 30 companies are expected to come to the event. The companies will concentrate on the marketing and sales fields.
“It’s a chance for students to give out resumes and all that,” Varghese said, adding that the event has been taking place for about 10 years.
“It’s a good opportunity for students to get internships for the summer or an actual job,” said Michael Morales, president of Pi Sigma Epsilon and a sophomore marketing major.
He said more than 200 students attended the event last year and they expect about the same amount this year.
“Some companies will bring handouts and have information about their companies,” Morales said.
Varghese said the marketing department decided to hold a job fair separate from the university job fair so students interested in marketing careers can concentrate on it.
“It’s a good opportunity, especially for seniors, to find a job,” Varghese said.
The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.
