Meeting finalizes executive positions
February 17, 2004
Today is the last opportunity for students interested in running for one of the Student Association or Campus Activities Board executive positions.
SA Election Commissioner Erik Swastek led the first candidates meeting Monday night. Swastek said students need to attend today’s meeting if they want to run.
Candidates will receive packets that outline the rules and regulations for running for an executive position. They need 400 student signatures by Friday to get their name on the ballot.
Potential candidates need permission from residence hall directors if they wish to solicit signatures in the residence halls.
Interested students can talk to Swastek or SA Office Manager Diane Smith at the SA office, located at the Campus Life Building, Suite 190.
“Don’t be afraid to come in,” Swastek said.
He said the more experienced SA members are willing to help. Swastek also said it’s key to get the 400 signatures on the petitions.
“That’s the biggest thing, getting the signatures,” Swastek said.
The order in which people turn in packets determines the order of names on the ballot, Swastek said.
Campaigning begins Feb 25. Candidates cannot campaign in or around academic buildings between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., according to the SA election policy. Candidates also cannot campaign on the Huskie buses.
All campaign material must be signed by the election commissioner and approved by University Programming & Activities, Swastek said.
