Ready to Rock
January 12, 2004
Staind will complete the feat of selling more than eight million albums, garnering international acclaim. They will perform Feb. 8 at NIU’s Convocation Center.
The modern rock band is best known for its single, “It’s Been Awhile,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s modern rock chart. They currently are touring to promote their latest album, “14 Shades of Grey,” which sold more than 221,000 copies in its first week of release last May.
Kevin Selover, director of marketing for the Convocation Center, said Staind’s album sales are an indication of its widespread appeal.
“Staind is a good modern rock band, and they have had some great No. 1 hits,” Selover said. “This is a show that is going to bring not only the college students, but people from areas like Chicago and Rockford. I think we are going to have a pretty diverse crowd that maybe will be a little more male-dominated, but pretty much your typical rock crowd.”
The band’s following has continued to grow after tours with Kid Rock, Korn and Limp Bizkit.
Concert promoter Don Kronberg said he has high expectations for the concert.
“With Staind, we are going to have a tremendously successful date,” Kronberg said. “We are set up for 4,000 people and I expect to sell out. Staind draws anyone from a high schooler to a guy in his mid-30s.”
An unannounced special guest will join the band for the concert, which will start at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8. at the Convocation Center. Tickets, which are $29.50 in advance and $32.50 at the door, are on sale at the Convocation Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.com.
