Women’s hoops to host Bobcats

The NIU women’s basketball team will look to make it four wins in a row over Ohio when it takes on the Bobcats at 2:05 p.m. Saturday at the Convocation Center.

The most recent win for NIU (6-8 overall, 1-2 MAC) against the Bobcats was last year when Joi Scott’s free throws with 8.1 seconds remaining in the game gave NIU a 61-60 win.

NIU leads the all-time series 10-9.

Ohio (6-7, 0-2) still is winless in the MAC East Division.

The Bobcats are led by senior center Latreece Bagley’s 14.5 points per game.

A big game from senior Lindsay Secrest could put her among NIU women’s basketball’s elite. The senior forward is 27 points away from becoming the 21st Huskie to score 1,000 career points.

“Plain and simple, Lindsay is a shooter,” NIU coach Carol Hammerle said.

Currently, Secrest leads the Huskies with an 11.8 points per game average. She also ranks 16th in the MAC.

Senior Jennifer Youngblood is also on the 1,000-point list.

The Huskies’ leading rebounder, Youngblood, is third in the MAC with a 10.3 rpg average.

NIU is in second place in the MAC for a three-point shooting percentage at 38.3 percent from beyond the arc.
