The DeKalb County Board welcomed a fresh face to its panel at Wednesday’s meeting.

Former Farm Bureau President Vince Faivre was formally sworn in as the 11th District representative and officially began his four-year term.

Faivre said he supports the board’s zoning decisions.

“I think we need to have organized growth. I think the county board has shown a lot of backbone over the years in enforcement of the zoning rules and in following the comprehensive plan,” Faivre said.

Before the proceedings began, Chairman Dennis Sands distributed several plaques to board members and other attendees.

DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller was recognized for 20 years of service and Sgt. Glen Gustafson of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Police, was honored for 25 years of law enforcement. Also, county board members Ruth Anne Tobias, Howard Lyle and Patricia LaVigne were commended for their years of board membership.

The Planning and Regulations Committee passed all three zoning resolutions unanimously.

Contention among the board arose when the Public Infrastructure and Development Committee introduced its resolution for restrictions on the parking of any vehicles on the county roadway system. The ordinance passed with two dissenting votes.

One of the largest items on the agenda was the Executive Committee’s vote to acquire property located at 211 E. State St., Sycamore, for $126,175.

The property was seen as essential to acquire to preserve the property for historical purposes. The measure passed by a 19-2 vote, with one abstention.
