CAB brings in Hot Club
January 28, 2004
Campus Activities Board’s Fine Arts Committee will bring in the Hot Club of San Francisco at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.
Tickets are available at the Holmes Student Center Box Office or by phone at 753-3146. Tickets are $5 for NIU students with a NIU OneCard; $13 for NIU staff/faculty, children 8 to 18 years old and adults older than 65; and $16 for the general public.
“Our previous fine arts coordinator saw them at a conference and liked it and thought it would be fun for the DeKalb community,” CAB President Jennifer Suerth said.
For more than 10 years, the Hot Club of San Francisco has celebrated the influential Gypsy jazz of the Hot Club de France and musicians Django Reinhardt and Stephanie Grappelli.
The Hot Club of San Francisco borrows the all-string instrumentation of the Hot Club de France. It brings to life vivid classical pieces while adding its own unique spin to the original works of lead guitarist Paul Mehling, Suerth said.
“It’ll be different than a traditional quartet or ballet,” said Brooke Beyer, CAB vice president of Programming & Activities.
