Businesses face liquor violations
November 13, 2003
Three local businesses have been charged with liquor violations by the city of DeKalb.
The Huskie Dawg Pound, Molly’s Eatery and Drinkery and American Liquors will face hearings for their violations on Nov. 24.
City Attorney Margo Ely filed charges with the liquor commission that stated American Liquors, 159 W. Lincoln Highway, allowed a minor into the store on Oct. 17 and sold the minor liquor without checking for identification.
The Huskie Dawg Pound, 1205 W. Lincoln Highway, has been charged with allowing two minors into its bar area on Oct. 17 and allowing them to purchase alcohol without an ID and without also purchasing food – a requirement of the business’ Class E liquor license.
Molly’s, 1022 W. Lincoln Highway, advertised drink specials on Oct. 21 that violated the city ordinance banning “happy hour,” the city has charged. Police then verified that the drink specials were being served that night.
The ad offered to sell alcoholic drinks for a reduced price for a fixed period of time, from 5 to 10 p.m., which can encourage consumption in violation of Chapter 38.30.
“I’m not at liberty to say much at this point,” said Greg Sparrow, DeKalb mayor and liquor commissioner. “It’s a judicial situation. I’ll have to listen to the charges brought upon them at the hearing.”
The alleged violations could result in suspension or revocation of the licenses and possible fines.
