N.C.N.T.F. makes busts in DeKalb

The North Central Narcotics Task Force made four local drug arrests following area undercover investigations.

N.C.N.T.F. was told local drug dealers were using hotels to conduct their business, said Sgt. JoAnn Davis, supervisor of DeKalb’s office of the N.C.N.T.F. The task force received information that a local woman rented a room at Microtel Inn & Suites, 1860 DeKalb Ave., in Sycamore, on Friday.

Davis said Meghan Montgomery, 21, a transient, delivered suspected crack cocaine to an undercover agent at the hotel.

N.C.N.T.F. said agents found additional suspected crack cocaine in Montgomery’s possession after her arrest.

Montgomery is being held in DeKalb County Jail on charges of delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, a Class X felony; delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony; possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a church; and possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

Montgomery’s bond has been set at $20,000.

During the course of the investigation, agents identified a man in the parking lot as James Carlson, 43, of 1472 Barber Greene Road, who was wanted by the Illinois Department of Corrections for parole violations, police said.

Police arrested Carlson at his residence and later learned he had given police a false name during an investigation in September, Davis said.

Carlson is being held in DeKalb County Jail and is ineligible for bond because of the parole violation. He has been charged with obstruction of justice, a Class 4 felony.

N.C.N.T.F. agents and DeKalb County Sheriff’s police arrested Alan Smith, 24, of Oak Park in an unrelated investigation at the DeKalb Oasis on Interstate 88. Police acting undercover approached Smith while he stood at his vehicle in the parking lot, where Smith was found to have two suspected ecstacy tablets in his possession, Davis said.

After obtaining a search warrant, police seized about 60 grams of suspected cocaine and about 24 grams of cannabis, N.C.N.T.F. said.

Smith was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony; possession of cannabis, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

Smith is in DeKalb County Jail with bond set at $100,000.

The task force made an arrest Oct. 24 after receiving a tip from DeKalb police that a suspect may have been selling cannabis at NIU.

Andre Joseph, 19, of Neptune East, Room 325 was arrested on charges of selling cannabis to an undercover agent on campus.

Joseph, a freshman computer science major, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver on school property, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of cannabis, delivery of cannabis on school property and delivery of cannabis.

Joseph was released from DeKalb County Jail after posting 10 percent of a $5,000 bond.
