DeKalb fines two businesses

Two local liquor establishments were fined Monday during DeKalb Liquor Commission hearings.

Dennis Radcliff, the owner of Husky’s Grill and Dawg Pound, 1205 W. Lincoln Highway, was fined $750 plus the cost of court fees, and it was given a one-day license suspension for Dec. 5, stemming from incidents that occurred on or about Oct. 17.

The charges state that two minors were allowed to enter and remain in the bar area and purchase alcohol without the store demanding they show identification. Also, patrons were served alcohol in the restaurant without food.

DeKalb City Attorney Margo Ely said Radcliff admitted to the charges and said the employee involved no longer is employed at Huskies. An employee and chains will be stationed at the bar, and everyone who enters the restaurant will get a menu.

American Liquors, 159 W. Lincoln Highway, also was fined $750, but it did not receive a suspension.

Ely said this was the first violation the store has had in the six years it has been operating.

The charges state that on or about Oct. 17, a minor was allowed to enter and remain in the premises without being accompanied by his parents or a legal guardian. A minor also was allowed to purchase alcohol without the store “demanding presentation of positive identification showing proof of age.”

Ely said the employee had pleaded guilty and the incident was “basically an oversight.”
