NAACP presents Masquerade Fall Ball

By LaShaunna Watkins

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host its Masquerade Fall Ball on Saturday at the Holmes Student Center’s Regency Room.

LaToya Shine, publicity chair for the NAACP and chair for the Fall Ball, said the ball is a formal event. She said the NAACP decided to host the event because they wanted to do something positive where people could have fun and be safe.

“This is a great opportunity for students to meet and mingle with each other,” Shine said.

Shine said this is an event where students will be able to dress up in their best attire.

The event will feature a Steppers Set contest organized by Trio. Dance group Shush also will perform. Poetry readings also will be featured at the event, Shine said.

The NAACP King and Queen also will be crowned. To be fair to all participants, Shine said the king’s and queen’s names will be pulled out of a hat.

Shine said she encourages people of all races and cultures to come to the event. People have the misconception that the event is open only to African-Americans, Shine said.
