A DeKalb man died as a result of a one-vehicle accident on West Hillcrest Drive on Sunday morning.

DeKalb police said Stephen Boston, 20, of DeKalb was a passenger in a gray Oldsmobile that struck a tree and caught fire at 455 W. Hillcrest Drive.

The driver, Eric Fultz, 19, has been charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane use and reckless homicide.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed.

Fultz was driving east on West Hillcrest Drive about 12:50 a.m. when he crossed the westbound lane and went over a curb, police said.

Witnesses were able to put out the fire and called DeKalb’s police and fire departments.

The two men were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital where Boston was pronounced dead at 1:36 a.m.
