Kishwaukee College to hold expo

By Joe Weyers

More than 75 vendors will attend the first-ever Kishwaukee Valley Community Expo, held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the new conference center at Kishwaukee College.

The DeKalb and Sycamore chambers of commerce have joined together to bring about this community event.

The expo will feature different members of the community, among those being the Huskie cheerleaders and team mascot Victor E. Huskie.

Restaurants, furniture stores, investment banks and travel agencies also will be showcased at the expo.

Door prizes will be handed out, and each booth may have prizes or free giveaways.

Kim Kubiak, executive director of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, has helped organize the event since last spring.

“A bank is going to have a money machine there, where people can go in and grab money,” Kubiak said.

The chambers of commerce learned of the interest in a community expo after their annual business-to-business expo in the spring.

Kubiak expects at least 500 people to attend.

“We hope to see a lot of families,” she said.

A manager of the Union Pacific Intermodal in Rochelle will give a presentation about the construction of the facility at 4 p.m. and again at 5 p.m.
