Pedestrians hit on Lincoln Hwy.
October 6, 2003
Three pedestrians were injured Monday afternoon when a motorist crashed into them on West Lincoln Highway.
The accident happened just after 1:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Normal Road and West Lincoln Highway.
The driver, Vanessa Gonzalez, 21, of 1325 W. Lincoln Highway, was cited for failure to yield after hitting the pedestrians, who were walking along the highway’s crosswalk, according to police reports.
Two of the pedestrians were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, according to police reports. When the accident occurred, Gonzalez was turning left from Normal Road onto West Lincoln Highway.
Witness Jasmin Campbell said about five people were crossing the highway at the time.
“The car kind of lurched forward like she accidentally hit the accelerator,” Campbell said. “Two girls flipped over on either side; I didn’t see the boy get hit.”
Campbell said the male had just a scratch on his leg. When DeKalb police arrived, two of the victims were laying on the ground and being attended to by bystanders.
