Greeks to propose charters to board
October 23, 2003
Seven different fraternities and sororities will propose their respective Greek charters to the Greek Life Standards Board today in hopes of starting chapters on NIU’s campus.
Each Greek organization will have 45 minutes to introduce themselves, give a presentation, answer questions from the GLSB and ask them questions as well. The presentations will be made at the Holmes Student Center, Room 405.
The board consists of faculty and students involved in Greek affairs, and can have up to 12 of its members at each presentation.
All presentations are open to the public, but spectators will not be able to speak during the presentations.
Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Alpha Sigma Omega sorority and Chi Sigma Tau fraternity will be presenting in the morning starting at 9 a.m. Presentations will continue at 1 p.m. after an hour break.
Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Kappa Phi Lambda sorority and Sigma Nu fraternity will present in the afternoon.
This will be the final major step the fraternities and sororities will take to become official Greek organizations on campus, assuming they have gone through the proper steps of receiving permission from their national charters.
Bertrand Simpson, associate director of the Office of University Programming and Activities, said if any Greek organizations are accepted, students should not expect to see them right away.
“If they receive approval, next semester would be the earliest time,” Simpson said.
