House speaker Dennis Hastert will host the Hastert Mega Event at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Highway.

Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-North Carolina, also will appear.

The 17th annual event is a fundraiser held every fall to help raise money for Hastert’s campaign.

“We hope to make more than $250,000,” said spokesman Brad Hahn.

The event, which usually is held in St. Charles, changed locations because of the size of the Convocation Center, Hahn said.

“[The fundraiser] continued to grow, so this is the perfect location,” Hahn said.

The evening will begin with a press conference for the media and a cocktail hour until about 7 p.m. Dinner also will be served, followed by remarks by Hastert and Dole.

Attendees also will have the chance to have their picture taken with Hastert.

Tickets for the event are $150. Hahn said about 1,500 people are expected to attend the event.

This is one of the biggest Republican events in the state, he said.
