Order of Omega honors NIU staff

NIU’s chapter of the Order of Omega, an honor society for Greeks, showed its appreciation for faculty and administrators with a banquet Tuesday evening.

“Our main goal [for the banquet is to] honor our faculty and administrators for the hard work and dedication they’ve shown us,” said Mike Calvert, president of the Order of Omega and a political science major.

The banquet also was a chance for students to interact with faculty and administrators in a casual environment.

“It’s a great opportunity to get to talk to students,” said Earl “Gip” Seaver, NIU’s vice provost.

The banquet also was used by the Order of Omega to recruit faculty and administrators into membership.

“We’d really like to see more of a connection between the Order of Omega and faculty and administrators,” said Chris Juhl, activities adviser for fraternity and sorority affairs.

Juhl also said the Order of Omega provides opportunities for students to come together with faculty and administrators to brainstorm new ideas for NIU, talk about issues on campus and provide programming.

Members said they also were able to use the banquet to get to know their professors outside of the classroom environment.

“It’s a good chance for students and faculty to mesh in a social situation,” said Mark Michiels, Omega member and electrical engineering major.

The Order of Omega is an honor society for Greeks. It recognizes excellence in academics, leadership and service.
