Arena books Colman Trio
October 1, 2003
Two more musical acts have been booked at the Convocation Center for the upcoming months.
Contemporary Christian music group Paul Colman Trio will perform on Nov. 6. Ratdog, featuring Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, will perform Nov. 14.
The Paul Colman Trio will be performing songs from its newly released album “One.”
The trio received a Grammy nomination this past year for best pop/contemporary gospel album, and received the Gospel Music Association’s praises as “2003 New Artist of the Year.”
Kevin Selover, marketing manager for the Convo Center, said there are a few reasons why the Paul Colman Trio would be a good show.
“We are trying to bring a variety of shows to DeKalb,” Selover said. “And they are one of the hottest Christian bands on tour this year. They are young and will attract a good college crowd.”
Joining the trio at the Convo will be gospel rock group The Elms and solo act Sarah Kelly, a Rockford native.
Selover said people from Rockford and the Chicago suburbs have called to find out more information about the show, and that the arena is expecting to draw a crowd coming from all over.
The Paul Colman Trio, who came from Australia, formed in 1998 and came onto the international scene in 2002. That year, they released their album “New Map of the World.” The CD contained two songs that climbed to No. 1 on the charts.
Weir, who recorded with the Dead from 1965 to 1995, has been performing with Ratdog since 1995, and they released their first studio album “Evening Moods” in 2000.
Selover said they are expecting a good mixture of students and people from all over for this show.
“Anyone who is familiar with the Grateful Dead should know Bob Weir,” Selover said. “He brings decades of great music and has a following of fans from 16 to 60 years of age.”
Tickets for both shows will be available at all TicketMaster locations, TicketMaster.com and at the Convocation Center box office.
