Community advisrs needed for 2004-2005

Residential Life services is seeking students interested in the community adviser position. Informational meetings will be held to discuss important guidelines and application processes for academic year 2004-2005.
Those interested must submit an application, an essay, two personal references, one hall staff reference and a residential life curriculum project. All application requirements will be discussed at the meetings.
Also part of the process are two panel interviews. One is conducted by a group of current residents, and the other by current community advisers.
“The primary focus for the CA position is to build floor community,” said Belinda Vazquez, the assistant director of Residential Life for Student Housing and Dining Services.
Community adviser is a live-in position that requires employees to work 20 hours each week. Aside from serving as a resource person, they also promote events that are conducive for learning and interests of students, said Vazquez.
Candidates for the position should be a full-time student with a minimum 2.3 grade point average and at least one semester of experience living in the residence halls. They also must possess the ability to work with diverse student members, and develop communication and leadership skills.
Vazquez said other job responsibilities include working nights, weekends and a few university break periods; attending weekly staff meetings; semester trainings; and board meetings.
Interested students can attend upcoming meetings. Stevenson C/D will hold its meeting at 4 p.m. today in the Fishbowl Room. The Grant South meeting will be at 7 p.m. today in the A-Formal Lounge. Douglas’ meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Big Blue Room.
