Volleyball hosts Bradley
September 15, 2003
There’s one last home match before the Huskie volleyball team takes a four-game road trip.
NIU (7-1) will take on the Bradley Braves at 7 p.m. tonight at Victor E. Court.
“Bradley is a very tough, hardworking team,” NIU coach Ray Gooden said. “They are coached by a legend. Even though their record doesn’t look great on paper, they are a very, very tough team.”
The legend that Gooden is talking about is Scott Luster. Luster has a record of 516-296 for his career, which places him in the Top 15 in wins on the active NCAA coaching list.
Bradley (2-8) lost in consecutive games to Ohio University on Sept. 13.
For the second time this season, Tera Lobdell was named MAC Player of the Week. She wasn’t named MAC Player of the Week all of last season.
Lobdell leads the Huskies in kills per game (4.03), while Brooke Dodson is tops on the team in kills (126). Marie Zidek is averaging nearly 12 assists per game.
Both Zidek and Lobdell are in the top four in the MAC in their respective categories.
Corinne Walsh, Dodson and Lobdell are all fresh off of being named to the all-tournament team this past weekend.
Walsh is very confident coming into the Bradley match.
“We always try to win in three games,” Walsh said. “We are playing better and better as of late. I think that we should be able to win in three games against Bradley.”
All seven of NIU’s wins this season have come on its home floor.
“I think that doing well on your home court is important,” Gooden said. “I think that the girls understand that. They are working hard so they can defend their home court.”
