Sorority will hold dance to honor its new pledges

NIU’s new sorority Zeta Sigma Chi wants people to dance the night away in honor of its new pledges.

The dance, which is held every semester, will take place from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday in the Diversions Lounge of the Holmes Student Center.

The money earned from the dance will be used as a fundraiser for the sorority.

“We are a new sorority,” said Teresa Garcia, member of the Zeta Sigma Chi house. “We hold the dance as a fundraiser for the sorority.”

Zeta Sigma Chi holds social gatherings to bring other people together, Garcia said.

“We are a minority sorority,” Garcia said. “We use socials to unite other minorities on campus.”

Although the main goal behind the social is to bring minorities together, Garcia notes the dance is open to everyone.

“Anyone and everyone is invited,” she said. “I just hope everyone goes and has a good time.”

The sorority hosted a similar dance last semester that was a success.

“(Diversions) was packed last semester,” Garcia said.

However, this semester Zeta Sigma Chi hopes to attract more people.

“We hope to get at least 250 people this semester because it’s open to the public,” Garcia said.

Zeta Sigma Chi has been active at NIU for two years.

According to Garcia, the members hope to be involved in more activities which the socials can help fund.

“We hope to do a lot more volunteer work,” she said.

The cost to attend the dance is $3. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
