Expo lands in Central Park

The day for the Student Association’s Organizational Expo finally has come.

From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., booths promoting NIU student organizations will operate at Central Park, between Grant and Stevenson towers.

Live music will be provided by DJ Craig for the majority of the day.

“NIU has a reputation of being a suitcase school,” said John Acardo, SA chief of staff.

The expo, which will feature many NIU student organizations, encourages students to join an organization, meet new people and stick around on the weekends, Acardo said.

In addition to sponsoring the expos, the SA will have its own booth. It will raffle off NIU gear and offer free food such as burgers, cotton candy and popcorn, Acardo said.

By hosting the expo, the SA demonstrates how it is working for the students, said DuJuan Smith, director of organizational development.

“I encourage NIU students to support the event and the organizations,” Smith said.

Organizations that did not turn in applications still are welcome to set up a booth. The event is an opportunity for organizations to recruit and increase their membership, Acardo said.

In the case of rain, the expo will be held at the Student Recreation Center.
