Rock The House
September 23, 2003
The House, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, is currently wrapping up its dinner show, “Some Enchanted Evening,” but has plenty of other things coming up in the near future.
“There will be more dinner matinee shows in the future” said Matthew Clark, who goes by the title of “good vibes generator.”
“Some Enchanted Evening” has been very successful. The House also has shows every day of the week, ranging from NIU’s Jazz Ensemble to Open Mic Poetry nights.
“It is pretty incredible what diversity comes from the students at the university,” Clark said. “The jazz program is very supportive of our venue. We have jazz now three nights a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The NIU School of Music has been so supportive, they have really been part of the success story.”
Clark said the venue’s open-mic nights generally consist of hip-hop, poetry and other shows.
“We have a wide variety of different types of things,” said Dustin Lewis, employee of The House. “Coming up soon, we are going to have our first opera concert. We’re going to do it on Halloween and have a masquerade ball. There is also Jazz Fest Weekend coming up in October.”
